چکیده

Ultraviolet (UV) fluorescent lamps are widely used in the manufacturing process of biomaterials. The possibility of replacing these lamps with ultraviolet light emitting diodes (UV-LEDs) was investigated and the results are presented here. A number of emission characteristics, including the spectral output and intensity of both light sources were measured and compared. The warm up time of the UV-LED was found to be faster than that of the fluorescent lamp while their stabilities were found to be comparable. The ability of each source to initiate photopolymerisation in a biomaterial sample was monitored using Fourier Transform Infrared spectroscopy and the percentage polymerisation calculated. The results presented here show that UV-LEDs are a viable alternative to UV fluorescent lamps in the manufacturing process of biomaterials. r 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

New Legionella Control Options by UV and Violet LEDs for Hospitals and Care Facilities

Legionella infections caused by contaminated water are a widespread problem worldwide. Discharge lamps like mercury vapor lamps are widely known for the disinfection properties of their radiation, but they suffer technical disadvantages, like high voltages and toxic content, and are, therefore, not suitable for some infection control applications. New high-intensity ultraviolet (UV) an...

مطالعه پرتوهای فرابنفش انتشار یافته از لامپ‏های فلورسنت فشرده متداول

Background and aims: Compact fluorescent lamps(CFLs) are low-pressure mercury vapor lamps, which are more useful than other light sources. Some studies reported the leakage of UV radiation from CFLs. The aim of this study was measuring of ultraviolet radiation from universal compact fluorescent lamps in Iran. Methods: In this study, measuring of UV radiation of 54 bulb compact fluorescent lamps...

Light Spectrum of Compact Fluorescent Lamps in Iranian Market and Possibility of Hydroxyl Radical Production

Background and purpose: Despite growing use of energy-saving lamps or compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs), there are concerns about ultraviolet radiation in their output. In this study, the output of CFLs available in Iranian market in the range of infrared, visible, and ultraviolet were measured and the possibility of hydroxyl radical production by their radiation was evaluated. Materials and me...

Topic Introduction Arc Lamps and Monochromators for Fluorescence Microscopy

Fluorescence microscopy requires high photon-flux densities in the specimen plane. These intensities are only achieved by lasers, arc lamps, and, most recently, light-emitting diodes (LEDs). Lasers and LEDs, however, are restricted to a limited number of wavelength regions, whereas with arc lamps it is possible to select arbitrary wavelengths and wavelength regions. Moreover, the lower cost of ...
